The Glasgow Youth Choir is made up of a group of young people who love to sing and enjoy music. Members come from in and around Glasgow to rehearse, and the sings range from being as young as 5 years old, to young ladies in their early twenties.
They are split into two sections - Junior and Senior - and each group rehearses weekly. The choir holds major concerts in May and December, but give performances throughout the year.
Over the choir’s 50 year history, it have had the chance to appear on television and radio on many occassions; most recently being on The Big Sing – Scotland on Songs of Praise in January 2007.
The choir has also toured extensively to places as far flung as Israel, New York, the former Yugoslavia, France, Norway, Austria, Czech Republic, Malta, Florida, Canada and Italy, as well as all over the UK - from Stornoway to London.
The Glasgow Youth Choir has been in existence for over 50 years and aims to continue nurturing the talents of the young people of the west of Scotland as it did when Agnes Hoey MBE founded the choir 50 years ago. The current (and only second) director is Audrey McKirdy.
