Scottish Ensemble

The Scottish Ensemble is a group of world class musicians from across Europe delivering inspirational performances internationally. Led from the violin by Belgian Artistic Director Jonathan Morton, the Ensemble regularly commissions new work and has an enviable reputation for innovative programming, performing rare and unusual pieces, alongside more well-known music. Composers who have written for the Scottish Ensemble include John Tavener, James MacMillan, Sally Beamish, Craig Armstrong and Thea Musgrave.

As one of Scotland’s flagship performing groups, the Scottish Ensemble receives invitations to perform throughout the UK and internationally, and appears regularly at London's Wigmore Hall, BBC Proms and  Edinburgh International Festival as well as City of London Festival; Aldeburgh Festival;  and the St Magnus Festival, Orkney.  Internationally, it has toured to China (Shanghai Spring International Festival), Germany and France. Their Glasgow venues include the City Halls and the RCS Concert Hall.

The Ensemble also delivers an extensive Education Programme, which encompasses all stages of musical development; from early years classes, to 'Side-by-Side' concerts with students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and London's Royal Academy of Music.
