The O2 Academy Glasgow (formerly the Carling Academy Glasgow) is a music venue on Eglinton Street in the Gorbals area of the South Side. It holds 2,550 people, and has hosted bands such as Nightwish, HIM, Papa Roach, The Fratellis, Flogging Molly, CKY, Gogol Bordello, Velvet Revolver and Brand New. It opened in the art deco New Bedford Cinema building in 2003 as has grown in popularity ever since: The Killers' 2006 gig at the venue sold out in a record 3mins, and is a venue for the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival, hosting Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle among many others. James Brown played his last ever UK gig at there in 2006, and American band, Alter Bridge always kick off their European tour at the venue.
