JD Twitch and JG Wilkes

JD Twitch and JG WilkesJD Twitch (Keith McIvor) and JG Wilkes (Jonnie Wilkes) established the Optimo club night in Glasgow's Sub Club in 1997. Their residency as a DJ duo at the club, brought Sub Club to local, national and international attention. Of the duo's time at Sub Club, The List magazine said:

make no mistake, [Optimo is] one of the most important musical contributions Scotland has made to this century.

Titch and Wilkes also toured under the Optimo name to America, across Europe and as far afield as Japan as well as releasing and producing music on behalf of other aritsts. Optimo garnered an internatioal reputation for its diverse music policy and innovation - both musically and in technology. The Guardian newspaper made a special feature of the club's use of new and innovative technology, and their music was played on BBC Radio 1. They also welcomed collaborations with other artists at the club, such as Franz Ferdinand and The Rapture.

Optimo was housed in a number of venues in the city centre after the Sub Club burned down in 1999, but returned to the relaunched Sub Club in 2002, when the purpose-built venues allowed more experimentation. It became known especially for it's Hogmanay and Hallowe'en nights.

The duo believe that Optimo's success was down to Glasgow, and that it couldn't have been created anywhere else, and that only a city as knowledgeable and passionate about music could have given birth to such a diverse and eclectic club night.

The club night came to an end in 2010, and Twitch said he 'never thought it would last 13 years.' Whilst the duo no longer run the weekly night in Glasgow, they tour round the world DJing at high-profile club nights. The Optimo record label also continues to go from strength to strength.
