Happy New Year!

It's great to be back on the Glasgow Music City Radio blog talking about just some of our favourite tracks circulating on the Glasgow blogosphere in January. 2013 is set to be another exciting year for Scottish music and we'll continue to do our best to act as a platform for all things musical, creative and most importantly Glaswegian. So lets get started....

Post-rock band Mogwai have released the collection 'A Wrenched Virile Lore', all remixes of the tracks mogwai a wretched virile lorefrom last year's album 'Hardcore Will Never Die'.  If you were a fan of the original record, this is a great accompaniment providing a refreshing and eclectic take on the original tracks. The record is a wonderful example of Mogwai's musical capabilities. Each track transcends and soars to new levels establishing the bands consistent relevance on the Scottish music scene.

A group you are bound to have seen on countless blogs/websites at the beginning of 2013 are the popular CHVRCHES. Tipped by BBC Introducing as their No.5 Sound of 2013, the Glaswegian trio have made a great start to their artistic career which, with their catchy track 'The Mother We Share', will make them a firm dance-floor favourite this year.

The next track comes from High Sheen a promising new Glasgow record label set up by Sam (Vitamins) and Ben Martin (Mixed Bizness). The label backs duo Doubleheart (AKA JD Twitch and Neil Landstrumm) in the release of their brilliant, makes your body move, EP, Roots. The record is one of detail and driving subtlety, two things which make for a great House anthem. More of this lads.

It wasn't long ago that we were talking about their last EP 'State Hospital'. However, we are excited to announce that on the 5th of February this year, following on from their well deserved signing with Atlantic, Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit will release 'Pedestrian Verse', their full-length major label debut and fourth album overall. Taking its name from a lyric in the song "State Hospital," which will also appear on the new LP, the album is set to be their "strongest" yet and you can listen to it NOW on Glasgow Music Citypedestrianverse Radio, don't say we aren't good to you.

The last two tracks we recommend to freshen up your January playlists are  Alex-ander - Ander-Traxx Vol 2. Ander-Traxx is another exciting label bred from the wealth of Glasgow's righteous underground House scene. The labels remit, like that of Glasgow Music City Radio includes supporting the presentation of unknown talent for future releases, we look forward to what they have in store this year. Finally, always happy to support a charitable cause, we are listening to Philanthrobeats Vol 1 - JD Twitch (Optimo) - Tony Benn, a station exclusive!

If you are an artist or band from Glasgow wanting to hear your music played on the station, why not send it in to our Dropbox on Soundcloud. This month we have new tracks from Voltergeist, Skippy Dyes, One Good Reason, Sunshine Social, The 13th Tribe, Goat Doctor, Kenn G, Aidan McIvor and The Deadline Shakes, Eat Dr Ape and Vicious 5150.
