Posted: Tuesday 29 May 2012
June is going to be a busy month for the city of Glasgow! There are plenty of events taking place which will showcase just why Glasgow is the first city in the UK to become a UNESCO City of Music and has recently been named 2nd after London on the leading music venues in the UK.
The West End festival which was first set up in 1996 by Michael Dale as a small arts festival located on Byres Road has since become the biggest festival in Glasgow's calender. It will take place from the 1st-24th June in several venues around the West End of Glasgow and will feature many of the city's finest talent such as RM Hubbert, We Were Promised Jet Packs, Aiden Moffat & Bill Wells, Stevie Jackson (Belle and Sebastien) and The State Broadcasters.
Glasgow Music City Radio will be airing a West End Festival playlist every Monday 2-4pm and Saturday 2-4pm.
Kicking off the festival on the 1st of June Electric Honey Records, the world-famous student-run record label of Stow College run by Ken McCluskey, presents a special evening showcase event. Featuring Danny Aubrey, The Young Aviators, an acoustic set from Woodenbox and the launch of French Wives’ album “Dream of the Inbetween”, this is a night not to be missed! The Electric Honey playlist is on every Monday and Saturday 4-5pm, listen in!
Also taking place this month is The Glasgow International Jazz Festival which was started in 1987, when Glasgow was bidding to become the European City of Culture for 1990. The event will run from the 27th of June through to the 2nd of July. The programme hosts a wide range of talented artists such as Brian Kellock, Brass Jaw, Mario Caribe, Neil Cowley and the James Taylor quartet.
As well as all the exciting events taking place there have been several releases worth mentioning this month promoting the up and coming musical talent of Glasgow.

The West End Festival also includes the UK's biggest chamber music festival - The Cottier Chamber Project. 22 of Scotland's top chamber ensembles giving daily concerts and talks in Cottier's. Something that this city should be proud of and shouting about!!!
