December's New Music
Posted: Thursday 29 November 2012
As with every month here on the Glasgow Music City Radio blog, we have some brilliant new tracks to talk about that are making their debut onto our December playlists.
Glasgow based Silicone Soul have delivered us a record which captures soul, hazy electronica and
elegansiliconet deep melodies crossing over to house vibes for their latest EP “Smokestak” released by Soma Records. After three years of no new releases from the duo this 5 track EP will most certainly welcome these Scottish artists back into the clubbers audio landscape.
S Type, the latest additional to join Glasgow's exceptional forward thinking hip hop scene (think Rustie, Hud Mo et al), released his long-awaited EP "Billboard" through LuckyMe records last month and has already become a firm favourite across the electronica, rnb and hip-hop communities. The 6 track record is anthemic and bursting with powerful, uplifting rhymes especially on the standout euphoric track, "Billboard", which is definitely worth a listen.
The second release from brand new Glasgow label Dixon Avenue Basement Jams comes from the unknown figure of Marquis Hawkes with "Cabrini Green". The mysterious underground house producer gives us a raw interpretation of classic old school House music but manages to deliver an innovative edge that is sure to turn heads.
Earlier this week Japanese label Mule Musiq released the two track EP "Rituals" from Glasgow's Auntie Flo. The record follows on from the success of "Sun Ritual", UK producer's debut on Kompakt's Speicher series. The catalyst for this record was Auntie's creative pull towards ritual music, "that takes place everyday around the globe, where music is ingrained into the fabric of everyday life and not a commodity as it is in the west", in his own words. These two Afro-dusted house tracks are sure to warm up the hearts of Glaswegian dancers and DJ's this December.
And finally this month we want to mention the eagerly awaited return of Errors, the Glaswegian
three-piece signed to Mogwai's Rock Action label. They are a brilliant example of indie band capabilities with their thoughtful delivery and occasionally energetic electro soundscapes. "New Relics" is an eight-track mini-album which combines their usual synth.disco sound with a new hypnotic depth. This new sense of space is driven by a more relaxed pace and thicker synth lines throughout. An enjoyable record to say the least.
