LabyrinthCraig Armstrong headlines a night of evocative music and gorgeous visuals at the Old Fruitmarket, Friday 23rd September 2011.
For this one off evening, the Old Fruitmarket will be transformed by artist Jim Buchanan. Jim creates beautiful labyrinths and over the past 20 years he has built them all over the world. Here, he is creating a huge pool of water, and projecting the labyrinth onto the surface of the water. Anyone can take off their socks and shoes and walk through the water, and as they do, the light reflects all around onto specially constructed sails above – spectacular and reflective at the same time.

Craig Armstrong has been inspired by this to create a new collaboration with artist and performer, AGF. Craig and Antye met by chance over ten years ago. In the spirit of UNESCO they have created a work in celebration of their long standing creative collaboration. Antye hails originally from Berlin but now lives on the island of Hailuoto in Finland; Craig’s from Shettleston in Glasgow.

The new piece is called 'Eilean' the title of the work means for them many shared ideas.  Any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water can be described as an island. This collaboration explores musically the mystic and the imaginary of being an island and as a human being. Craig has collected samples from around Scotland and composed for the piano and the collaboration with Antye will involve digital treatment, voice and visuals.

This show is for one night only. Also on the bill, ICEBREAKER perform Terry Riley’s seminal masterwork, IN C, and Alex Smoke creates a new electronic work in response to Riley.
