Posted: Thursday 29 September 2011
A celebration of Glasgow hip-hop and a music industry panel are being held in the city next month in the lead up to the MOBO awards ceremony. The events have been organised by Hear Glasgow! and have been endorsed by MOBO. The first event on Friday 30 September is at Classic Grand and features Rap Battles with DJ Steg G and is for over 14’s. On Monday 3 October Naomi Kerr, Hector Bizerk, Bigg Taj, Solareye of Stanley Odd, Black Bros, Konchis and Physiks and a dance showcase with Boogalock and Tesko is being held at PivoPivo. The following night an Urban Music Production Panel will give advice and discuss everything you need to know about making Urban Music in Glasgow, focusing on elements of production. The panel event at The City Halls will be followed by live music from special guests.
Hear Glasgow! is a Youth Music Initiative funded project with a remit to create access to music making opportunities for young people aged up to 25. They work with young people and musicians and the music industry to broaden participation ranging from helping a band to get on the ladder with industry advice to running music projects in the city which have previously had no provision.
Councillor George Redmond, Chair of Glasgow Life said: “These exciting events are the initial stages of a partnership which will form the basis of a legacy around the ongoing relationship with MOBO. It will aim to support and promote the Urban scene in Glasgow by creating more opportunities for young people and music practitioners working in Urban music. It means MOBO endorsed events will accessible to all and will lead to a mixtape of the best Glasgow Urban Music being produced and distributed.”
