Forestry Commission Scotland brings the sound of music to Castlemilk
Posted: Friday 16 March 2012
Visitors to Castlemilk Park will be moving to the sounds of the Commonwealth on Saturday 31st March 2012 as part of a brand new international music event.
Supported by Forestry Commission Scotland, the free Music of the Commonwealth event will feature live performances from the Ayawara Percussion Group, Oi Musica, Clan Macondo and the Abolicao Capoeira Group and storytelling by Alasdair Taylor.
The event, from 1pm until 3pm, is suitable for all ages and has been organised by arts organisation Impact Arts to encourage engagement with local woodlands.
Romena Huq, engagement officer at Forestry Commission Scotland said: “This is set to be a fantastic day with performances by a diverse range of musicians.
“We are also involved in creating an interactive storytelling walk through the woodlands.
“Music fans of all ages are welcome to join the cultural event and will experience music from a wide range of countries including Africa, Spain, Columbia and Brazil.
“This is just one of a series of events the Commission is involved in which encourage people to engage more with their local woodlands and experience the benefits of participating in outdoor activities.”
Laura Gutierrez, senior programme manager at Impact Arts said: “Bringing such an exciting mix of international dance and music to Castlemilk Park – from Latin American rhythms to the sounds of West African drums – is an exciting prospect.
“The event provides a great opportunity to celebrate Glasgow’s cultural diversity and Impact Arts are proud to be working on the project with the Forestry Commission Scotland.”
