Scottish Chamber Orchestra: Beethoven Seven

Mendelssohn's Overture to 'The Fair Melusine' introduces two great mainstays of the repertoire. Schumann's Piano Concerto was born during its composer's great flood of inspiration in 1840-41, and finished at the urging of his new wife Clara, a piano virtuoso whose skills at the keyboard outstripped his own. Finally, Beethoven's Symphony No 7 has always been a popular favourite, partly on account of its literally show-stopping second movement (at the premiere, it had to be encored immediately). Nelson Goerner is the piano soloist and Emmanuel Krivine conducts.
